Ballast or DMD Board Issue?

Having similar issues that I've seen posted but I have not seen a definitive methodology to understand whether or not it is a ballast or DMD board issue. I replaced the lamp last week on my Samsung HLR5667WAX/XA with part BP96-01073A which I believe is the Philips bulb thinking that it can't hurt to try that. TV still will not turn on. Screen illuminates but is black. Lamp looks like it is on from viewing it in the rear of the TV. The "happy sound" does not come on. Lamp light flashes when I try to power it up and then it eventually goes back to Standby mode. What can I do to determine whether I should try to replace the ballast or the DMD board? If the DMD board, how difficult is that to replace?
