Samsung HLP 4663W Dim Screen

Postby Ragnar » Fri Oct 14, 2016 1:33 pm

The display on my screen has become noticibly dim. Everything has a washed out look, or like I'm viewing the screen through fog. I figured it may be the lamp and replaced it. I used a Phillips not a generic bulb, but this had no effect. All of the display settings are at their normal settings, so no problem there. I've even taken the front off the TV thinking perhaps the mirror was dusty, but it's spotless.

I've changed bulbs and fans in this TV before, as well as cleaned it out, so I know my way around it. I just can't figure out what is making it so dim. I've researched ballast and light engine issues, but with no luck. I'm hoping someone here has some insight because usually I can fix this TV pretty easily. Any idea why it's so dim, and what can I do to fix it?

Hello,

If your lamp was recently changed make sure the lamp timer was reset. If not that might fix the problem. Let us know if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I did successfully reset the timer shortly after installing the new lamp. Any other ideas?

Hello,

I would definitely have the ballast looked at. I'm not sure how old the TV is but it's possible the ballast no longer puts out the voltage the lamp needs to work properly. That or the power supply might not be powering the ballast correctly.
