Lamp/Ballast troubleshooting

Postby viceologist » Tue Jun 01, 2010 9:45 pm

I recently replaced my lamp in my Samsung HLS5087wx and within two months the tv started turning off on its own just about every 30 minutes to an hour. The reason I replaced the old lamp was because it was having the same "turning off on its own" issues to begin with.

I am not sure if the lamps are the issue or if I am having a ballast problem. Can anyone advise? Are there wattage amounts that I should be looking for from my lamp and my ballast to make sure they are compatible?

Any troubleshooting tips to figure out the problem?

I appreciate any help, because this is driving me nuts...I need this tv fixed before the world cup or I just may freak out!

Perhaps the high temp limit switch is being tripped by an overheating condition. Have you checked that all your fans are operating and the intakes/ exhaust ports are not obstructed? You could connect a continuity tester to the switch and watch for a break in continuity when the TV switches off. If the switch is still showing that it is closed when the TV shuts down, then it's something else.

Mitsubishi Big Screen 1080P TV WD57733 HDMI

Is the lamp and lamp ballast the same thing? THinking about purchasing the above TV and the seller stated that it needed a lamp replaced. I inquired more to get specifically what the problem was and was informed the ballast lamp. Is this able to be done on my own or would it be best to have a TV repair man do this? Thanks in advance for assistance.

Is replacing the lamp and lamp ballast one in the same? Also can this be carried out better by having a tech do it or is it a do it yourself job? I'm thinking it would be a simple fix on the above tv that an individual is trying to get rid of. I would hate for it to be more of a headache though.

Thanks for your reply. Is there a site or handout source that you could recommend that can assit me in replacing the ballast if that is what is needed? I wouldn't have a problem attempting to replace the ballast if I had something to go by. I almost figured that it wouldn't be as simple as replacing the lamp once I saw the part, which has been difficult to come by. I ordered a lamp so will replace it tonight and see if that solves the issue if not then the journey to repairing the tv begins.
