Acer X1261P Dark spot..

Postby Nephilim » Sat Jul 18, 2015 12:02 am

Hey All,

I signed up here from a link from the Shack While I had to wait to get approved to post I had already repaired the PRojector.. But I will post here what had happened and tsome pics of it..

WEll I was gaming one night late and I had looked over at my left screen, I run NVidia 3D Surround with 3 PRojecotrs, I noticed a dark spot on the screen.. Well I thought it was a blob of dust or something and then I smelled something burning. I quickly shut off the Projector and let it cool for a bit then took it apart..

I was looking around when I noticed some brown stuff on the lens.. It was the lens in the Light module, so I took it apart and low and behold the lens had been burnt to a crisp.. WEll I looked around and found a lens on ebay but it was plastic, I wanted to try and find a glass lens but after a ferw days I had no success in tracking down a glass lens or any lens for that matter..

So I ordered the lens from ebay and after about 4 days I got it in the mail and went to work.. I reassembled the lens and when I fired it back up it worked but in the top right there was a shadow.. I thought it was the tape that covered the hole in the light module , so I took it back apoart and looked at the tape and saw it was not that.

I disassembled the light module that housed the 3 lenses and looked at the lens I put in and I checked the service manual and it appeared I had put the lens in the wrong way.. Well I realigned it and assembled the light engine which was a bit tricky but finally managed to get it.. I fired it up and voila worked good as new.. I had taken some pics and here they are:

Hello, I am glad this worked out nicely, hopefully the plastic composite will hold up much like a glass lens..

So upon inspection of the images, this seems recent I have to ask if you have recently replaced the lamp in this unit? To me and the times I have had to fix projectors with this exact issue was

1- The wrong lamp was installed, and 80% of the time it was the sellers fault for they had sold an Elliptical shaped conical lamp inside the lamps housing. Typically called an E22 which shines light directly on one point as opposed to the correct lamp typically called a P22 in factory jargon, which is a Parabolic conical shaped lamp and it shines light all throughout the lamp with no specific focus.

2 - Temperature, that 20 out of 100 burned lenses was due to a cooling system malfunction, AKA a bad fan or a clogged air duct.

If you recently changed the lamp I suggest for safety that you double check the model number ordered. In either case if you did not do this when you initially took it apart, I would dust the interior boards fans and ducts.

I hope our posts are of some help to anyone with this issue and/or model. THANKS!
