It could be a number of things. Have you checked the air filters to make sure they are not clogged. If air can’t circulate due to blocked filters, the projector will overheat and shut down to self protect. The lamp hours is only an estimate and the lamp may have died before the estimated hours. You could try replacing the lamp and see if this solves the problem. It’s the easiest solution. Otherwise, you need to start looking at the color wheel ballast as this may be damaged. Try the air filters and new lamp first. Hope this helps.

Hi, my Optoma HD141X just randomly shut off and the lamp error and power indicators are solid red. Not sure what this means? I can turn it off and back on and it runs fine for a little while and then shuts off the same way again. Menu indicates that I only have 763 hours on it… Anyone know what this error is, the manual doesn’t include this error.

Hi Pat,
Did you reset the lamp timer? if that wasn’t done the projector will shut itself off. The clicking sound could also be the lamp not connected properly. A bad ballast will give you pixelated images but not necessarily a clicking noise. It’s most likely the lamp. If it was bought on Amazon it may be a counterfeit lamp with parts that are not properly manufactured. These lamps often give off a clicking sound.

Projector stopped working with a blinking lamp light. Replaced the bulb, but same problem persists – fan will come on and I hear some clicking but then it shuts itself off. Is it possible the ballast is bad? If so, is that replaceable?

Hi Shawn,
First check the fans are working and that the filters are not blocked. It might be time to replace the filter itself. You can try taking them to see if they are dirty. Both red lamps at the same time indicates that the fan and the lamp are both not functioning. But there is a possibility that the knock off bulb damaged your color wheel and ballast. Try cleaning or replacing the filter, re-installing the lamp and resetting the lamp timer. if that doesn’t restart the projector you will need a service technician. Hi thanks for the input. I changed the bulb with a OEM bulb after trying the knock off. When I had the knock off in it the bulb only lasted a month. I then heard a loud windy noise and it shut off. It didn’t explode or anything. I opened it up and cleaned everything besides the color wheel. The blue light will turn on but when I click it on the 2 red lights come on the power and bulb. Do you know what it might be? I have the same one as above. Hd141x

Hi Antonio,
The most obvious way to tell about the lamp is the price and where you bought it. Many lamps on Amazon are counterfeit. The usual price for this lamp is $99 so that is a low price. It may very well be a counterfeit. We have a series of articles on how to spot counterfeits:

thank you very much for the advice!!

The lamp I’m using is this one:

and actually I do not trust it 100%.

There is anythink I can try in order to understand if the lamp is working properly ?

And I do not know how to reset the timer if it cannot stay on for more then 10 seconds I’m not even able to enter the menu’.
There is any trick about?

Hi Lello,
The first thing to check is that you reset the lamp timer after replacing the lamp. If this has not been reset to zero the projector will think the lamp is still damaged and not turn on. Next you can try reinstalling the lamp to make sure all the connections are secure. Where did you buy your lamp? if it was on the Internet and was selling at a very low price, then chances are the lamp is counterfeit and not calibrated properly for your projector. If that is the case then you will need to return the lamp for a refund and then purchase at OEM lamp. If not of the above works then your colour wheel and ballast may have been damaged when the lamp exploded. You will have to take it in for service with a technician if this is the cause. Good luck.

Hi all,
I’m struggling with my Optoma HD141X.
One month ago the lamp suddenly exploded in the projector.

I cleaned all the dust and the shattered glass and then I replaced the lamp.

All the fans seems to work properly but every time I try to switch on the projector it shuts down after few seconds.

Do you have any advice?
