I have an HL-P5085W that turns on, but displays a flashing "check fan #1" message and then shuts down after about a minute.
This model only has one fan — the one for the bulb — and that registers as "fan #2".
What is malfunctioning and telling the unit that a) it has two fans and b) that there is a problem with this phantom fan unit?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Samsung DLP Fan Issue

Have you removed the back shell for a visual inspection? I really think there should be a second lamp... one for the entire TV and one for the lamp...

Re: Samsung DLP Fan Issue
Hello! I got your message, sorry its against policy to troubleshoot via IM,
Anyways, I think with a little 20$ investment on a Thermostat (temperature sensor) you can rule out any possibility of a DMD board issue..

Thanks Grayfox.
I'm not very adept at posting. I was hoping the message would be posted in the forum AND be sent to you.
I will try the thermometer because it is cheap, but I'm not sure why that would be a problem since the sensor seems to be monitoring the performance of the bulb fan. There is no alert about the fan that this should be monitoring ("fan #2")
No one has been able to make any diagnostic sense of this yet, so let's give it a shot.
Pray for me, people.

Re: Samsung DLP Fan Issue
Well, see the issue here, is even thought it is claiming that FAN #2 is down :( , there is no FAN #1... this might be due to the fact that some DMD boards are used for various models which can include 2 or more fans. this (being that it is very cheap) would be my first troubleshooting step, I know it involves a cost, but I think it is relatively worth it :D
pray we will!

Re: Samsung DLP Fan Issue
I have a HLS 5687 that was giving me the "Check Fan No 2" error. I folled the steps I saw on this site and changed the large fan, reset the blue button and replaced the back. It turned on great from about 10 seconds and turned off. The lamp light is now flashing, just had it replaced several months ago. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hello Tammie,
many times this can mean a ballast issue if only the lamp light is blinking, how long ago did you change the lamp exactly?
