Hi Patrick,
My apologies for the late replay. I'm afraid you have been lied to by this reseller. You can absolutely reset the lamp timer to zero and put the old lamp back into the propjector. Judging from the filter this projector has been used for months and many hours. It takes a long time to build up that much dust on the filter. That being said, once you replace the lamp and filter, the projector should still have some life left in in it. These Epsons are very sturdy and built to last. I hope you didn't overpay too much for it. Good luck.
Regards,
Shelagh

Hi Steveev,
Check that there are no parts of the blown lamp left in the projector. Check the filters. Reset the lamp timer to zero because unless it's at zero the projector will think the lamp is still old. Verify that the lamp is OEM and not a counterfeit lamp since this will set off the read lamp warning as well. If none of these work, then your ballast color wheel may have been damaged when the lamp blew. You will need to take it to a technician in that case.

HI Jeremie,
Your filter is probably blocked and needs to be either cleaned or replaced. Even if the fan turns on if the air filter is blocked, the projector will overheat. You should also unmount it and see if there is any broken lamps part or anything blocking the fan and see what the filter looks like. Also double check that the lamp is genuine. This is an older model and while there are generic lamps that are good, there are also a lot of counterfeit that are not calibrated to work with the projector and that can trigger these warning messages.

Hi John,
Did you reset the lamp timer? If that has not been reset to zero you will get that Lamp Fail 2 error message. Also check that the lamp cover has been properly re-installed. Under the Status Menu check that the lamp timer has been reset to zero. Sometimes it doesn't automatically and you can do the factory reset to put it back to zero. If it's not the lamp then it may be the actual board or ballast that have gone and it that case it's not worth repairing as this machine is out of production. Hope this helps.

I have a Vivitek 963HD projector. Turning on the projector has been a problem as the lamp will not light up until after a few tries if it will at all. I replaced the lamp with a genuine Phillips brand bulb and cannot get the projector lamp on or if I am able to, it may take more than 10 tries of it trying to go through the boot up process. After checking the blinking light error code in the manual, I have discovered that the error is "Lamp Fail 2". Does anyone know exactly what this means? *This error is different from the "Restrike Lamp Failure" error.

Hi,
Thanks for your answer. (I replied to your reply but I can't see where my post went to)
I replaced the lamp and put exactly the same reference: Osram P-VIP 280/0.9 E20 9n. I'm pretty sur it's properly installed.
The projector starts, I reset the lamp timer, but after ~3 minutes it says there's a "fan failure, the projector will turn off".

All the fans turn correctly.
Do you have any guess, or should I unmount the whole projector to check if there's a broken part ?
Thanks,
Regard,
J.

I haa bulb blown on my BENQ WX1070 and suspect that as mentioned above 'When this happens, the projector temperature controls will go off'. I have fitted a new lamp but get the red lamp warning and cant see any loose connections and the door catch looks ok. Any suggestions on getting it to reset?

I bought an Epson EX7210 at an auction. The description of the item said that it had only been used for 10 hours. The first thing I did when I got home was download a manual and look up how to determine the hours it had been used. I discovered that the only hour counter is related to bulb life, and can be user reset, and once that's done, it starts showing an hour count at....10 hours. What a coincidence.

I then pulled the dust filter, and gave it a rub with a Q-Tip. See pics: https://imgur.com/d1MVWJp . The first pic shows the Q-Tip with the dust, as you can see, the filter is showing the impressions of the grate of the housing. This seems to indicate usage that vastly exceeds the 10 hours claimed.

Is there any way to tell if the seller has reset the hour count without changing the bulb? Can the bulb or the housing show telltale signs of use as the lifespan moves along?

Hi Victor,
It's most likely the lamp. Have you checked to see the lamp hours? If it's reached end of life or if any warning signs come on screen it means your projector will automatically shut off to protect itself from a lamp that is about to stop functioning. The other thing to check are your filters. This model has a side filter which is easily checked. If the filters are clogged, that can also make the projector overheat and it will shut down. But most likely it's your lamp which needs replacing.
Cheers,
Shelagh
