top reasons to buy a DLP projector

Why buy a dlp projector?

A DLP projector is the best choice on the market offering competitive pricing and superior technology. Enjoy crisp, clear visuals with colors that pop along with easy of use with your DLP purchase.

Here are the top 5 reasons to purchase a DLP projector.

Ultra clear picture

Due to the technology using millions of tiny mirrors reflecting colors, video and graphics are sharper. The mirrors spaced less than a micron apart means there are fewer gaps between pixels so images are smooth with a film-like quality. You won’t see the pixilation effect that is present in LCD projectors. The DLP projector also has sealed optics making them better suited for dusty environments.

High resolution

DLP projectors deliver the highest available resolution – over 2 million pixels at 1920 x 1080. This translates into a full HDTV experience with outstanding picture and quality for either work or leisure viewing. With a DLP 1080p Projector you can experience the best HDTV programming, Blu-Ray discs, or video games available.

Brilliant Color

DLP projectors have a technological advantage over LCD projectors due to their sophisticated color wheel. DLP retain color accuracy because they simply reflect light onto the screen producing a crisp, clear and brilliant picture. Since there is no color decay or decreased legibility over time, your DLP projector will last for years.

Deeper blacks, brilliant whites

DLP Projectors provide a clear, sharp picture due to the high black and white contrasts. Most DLP projectors have contrast ratios of 2000:1—higher than most LCD projectors. Deeper blacks and more brilliant whites mean text is extremely readable—especially important in presentations that are text heavy presented in rooms with ambient light.

Portable and connected

DLP are small and compact due to their light engine with a single chip. Many weigh in at three-pounds or less making them very portable—especially important for business travel. They’ve been designed for easy set-up and quick connections to your computer.

Sanyo_PLV-Z1X_projectorLearn how maintenance can prolong projector lamp life

How to create a regular maintenance routine that will keep your projector working smoothly and prolong projector lamp life.

Cleaning the lens

A dirty projector lens can damped the quality of your image. Regular cleaning will help keep the picture bright. However, projector lenses are quite sensitive to scratching so approach with caution. The best way to clean your lens is to use a can of compressed air to get rid of any dust on the lens. Then gently wipe using dry microfiber lens cloth, found at any camera store. Keep your touch light and don’t press down too hard. If there is a stubborn streaks, then try using a lens cleaning solution.

Filter Cleaning

Like any electronic device, your 1080p projector is full of circuit board that creates heat. Every projector is cooled by air being pulled inside through a filter. This filter acts as a barrier to dirt and dust. When the filter gets clogged it the projector isn’t able to cool effectively and can overheat. A projector that is constantly running too hot burns through lamps faster. A projector that seriously melts down can have its circuit board and panels cooked. Keep your air filter clean.

Follow your instruction manual to learn how to change the filter in your particular model.

Check airflow

Don’t forget to check your ceiling-mounted projectors. They often get overlooked because they are not  easily accessible. Check to make sure your 108op projector has enough airflow around it. If the filters can get enough air intake, your projector will overheat. Check all the nuts and bolts to see if they need tightening/cleaning.

Change the lamp

Projector lamps tend to gradually get dimmer as they approach end of life. Every 1080p projector has a lamp tracking timer that will count the number of hours left. When it reaches a critical point, warning lights will start to blink and an on-screen message will ask you to replace the projector lamp.

When it’s time to replace the lamp be sure to buy genuine OEM lamps. We all like to save money but generic, “compatible” lamps should be avoided because of their inferior materials and workmanship. The few bucks you save can end up costing you much more in the long run when these counterfeit lamps damage your projector and compromise your health.

Home-Theater-screen

Projector screen set up is the final step for your home theater

It takes some planning to get your projector screen set up to get the perfect location. You’ll first have to consider the location of the projector. Most projectors are designed to have the middle of the lens project just a bit above the bottom edge of the screen.

You’ll want the ideal set up for your projector screen. The standard set up for the ideal height for a squared off image is to have the projector rest on a small table in front of the screen. Projectors with a vertical lens shift will have more flexibility and range. Since you won’t be able to sit in the path of the light beam, you may consider mounting the projector on the ceiling for more space.

The next step is finding the perfect location for your screen.

Placement is crucial

The bigger that projection, the better the picture but you will need to put the screen further away.  The minimum size the image can be is approximately 30″ (0.8 m) measured diagonally when the projector is roughly 4 feet (1.3 m) from the wall or screen. The largest the image can be is 500″ (12.7 m) when the projector is about 80.83 feet (24.64 m) from the wall or screen. Consult the drawing below as a guide.

screen set-up
Need help calculating the right size projector screen for your needs? Check out this online calculator.

Throw Distance and Screen Size

Each screen has an aspect ratio. The most common options are typically 16:9 or 4:3. Make sure your screen’s aspect ratio matches your projector’s for the best possible viewing experience.

The ideal screen size takes into consideration both the width and depth of the viewing room.  The biggest consideration for setting up your projector is the throw distance, which is the proportion of width and height of an image projected onto the screen.

It’s typically expressed as numbers, such as 4:3, but these numbers ARE NEVER the size of the screen. You will need to calculate the distance of the projector and then adjust it with the projector turned on.

An interactive whiteboard is an powerful instructional tool that can help any lesson come alive. These safety tips and precautions will help you get the most out of your interactive whiteboard.

Safety first

whiteboard

  • Don’t obstruct the cameras’ view of the interactive whiteboard’s surface or edges. Avoid magnets, stickers or adhesive tape on the interactive surface. Don’t rest any objects, including the pens  at the bottom of the interactive surface. This interferes with the corner cameras’ ability to detect your finger or pen tray tools.
  • Tell students not to look directly at the light beam from the projector as this can cause eye strain. Encourage them to keep their backs to the projector and before turning to face the class have them take a step sideways out of the projector’s beam.

Make sure that you don’t look directly into the projector’s beam. Keep your back to the class when you write over a projected image. Step to the side of the interactive whiteboard before you turn to face the class.

  • Tell students not to touch the projector because it can become extremely hot during normal operation.
  • Never let a student stand on a chair to reach the screen. If your students can’t reach the top of the interactive whiteboard, remount the wall-mounted unit at a lower position.

Preventing damage to the interactive whiteboard

whiteboard use of screenAlthough the SMART Board interactive whiteboard’s surface is very durable, take the following precautions to prevent damage to the interactive surface.

  • Avoid areas with high levels of dust, humidity or smoke.
  • Don’t use sharp or pointed objects, such as ballpoint pens or pointers, as writing tools.
  • Replace the pen nib when the nib wears out.
  • Low-odor dry-erase markers can be very difficult to erase. Use standard (high-odor) dry-erase markers but use them only in well-ventilated areas.
  • No adhesive tape on the interactive surface.
  • No abrasive erasers or harsh chemicals to clean the surface.
  • Never use compressed air to clean the interactive whiteboard’s cameras. The force of the air can damage them.

Keeping the writing surface clean

With proper care, the SMART Board interactive whiteboard will provide years of trouble-free service. Here are the best tips for keeping the interactive whiteboard working at its best:

interactive-whiteboard-student-teacher-anotate

    • Turn the interactive whiteboard off before you clean it so that you do not scramble the desktop icons or accidentally activate applications when you wipe the interactive surface.
    • To view dirt or streaks more easily, set the projector to standby (lamp off) mode.
    • Never  spray cleaner directly onto the interactive whiteboard’s surface.
    • To clean: spray a light amount of cleaner on a cloth and then gently wipe the interactive surface.
    • Clean your interactive whiteboard at least every six months.
    • Don’t allow excess cleaner to flow onto the frame’s reflective surfaces or into the pen tray slots.
    • The digital cameras located in the corners of the frame are protected from dust and dirt by windows. In extremely dusty environments, spray an alcohol-free household glass cleaner, such as Windex® cleaner, on a cotton swab and rub it gently on the windows. Don’t use compressed air to clean the cameras.
